West Sumatra Police Asks People To Beware Of Phone Scams

PADANG - The West Sumatra Regional Police (Polda) asked the people in the area to be aware of fraud by telephone with the mode of notifying a family who had an accident.

Fraud cases using the mode of calling family and reporting that a family member has had an accident are common, this makes the public nervous about the behavior of the perpetrators of fraud with this mode," said Head of Public Relations of the West Sumatra Police, Kombes Satake Bayu, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, April 19.

He asked the public not to trust the phone too easily.

"If there is such an incident, we ask the public not to be quick to believe and are advised to contact the nearest police station to make sure the incident is true or false," he said.

"In addition to contacting to confirm what happened, it is hoped that the community will check the truth by coming directly to the nearest police station," he said

According to him, fraudulent actions are often carried out in various modes, such as online buying and selling, borrowing business capital, and even using the name of the police to solve a case.

"A case that often occurs is where the perpetrator will call the victim saying if his child hits someone to death," he said.

The fake calls usually come from someone who claims to be a member of the National Police, the caller said that his son was being detained for hitting people to death.

To prevent this from happening, the West Sumatra Police again appealed to the public not to trust too easily, especially to people they did not know at all. Especially if there is a call in the name of a member of the police who offers to solve a case.

"We ask the public to check the truth by directly coming to the nearest police station," he said.
