PDIP Legislator: Elections Are Legislative Authority, If An Executive Says Elections Are Postponed, Who Are You?

JAKARTA - Commission II of the DPR confirmed that it would continue discussions regarding the stages, programs and budget of the 2024 General Election with the government and election organizers, KPU-Bawaslu. Simultaneous elections are confirmed to be held on February 14, 2024.

"The election has already been decided at Commission II, February 14, 2024, it will be a presidential election and a legislative election. For November, we have decided the simultaneous local elections throughout Indonesia, so why make a fuss?" said Deputy Chairman of Commission II DPR Junimart Girsang in the building DPR, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, April 11. The PDIP legislator emphasized that the issue of delays, extensions, or withdrawals or other matters relating to the election was the legislative authority, not the executive authority. Thus, executives are prohibited from talking about things that are not their land. "So if an executive says the election will be extended, according to the data, for example, who are you?" asked Junimart.

It is known that the executive who spoke about the postponement of the election and mentioned the data was Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.

Junirmart reminded executives to work seriously and not to disturb President Joko Widodo with wild issues.

"Let Pak Jokowi work, we all support our work, so that if we can recover and the pandemic becomes endemic," he said.
