JAKARTA - The Traffic Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya noted that the number of accidents in DKI Jakarta has increased during the implementation of Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB).

Polda Metro Jaya Traffic Directorate Director, Kombes Sambodo Purnomo Yogo said the increase in the number of accidents was based on a comparison of data between the implementation of the transitional PSBB and the current PSBB.

"The number of incidents then increased by 1 percent and there was an increase in the death toll by 40 percent," said Sambodo to VOI, Friday, October 2.

Sambodo detailed the implementation of the transitional PSBB from 31 August to 14 September the number of accidents reached 168 cases. Meanwhile, the PSBB dated September 14 to September 27 increased to 169 cases.

The increase also occurred in terms of the number of violations. In the transitional PSBB from September 7 to 13, there were 21,908 violations. Meanwhile, at the PSBB dated September 14 to 20, the number skyrocketed to 23,316 violators.

"From a comparison of one week's data on the implementation of the transitional PSBB and the current PSSB, the number of violations increased by 6.43 percent," he said.

Previously it was reported that the implementation of the Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) policy in DKI Jakarta had been going on for two weeks. As a result, traffic flow in the capital decreased by 21 percent.

"For example, the Sudirman-Thamrin on Monday, September 7, 2020, volume was 89,446, while Monday, September 14, 2020, the volume was 70,509. So there was a decrease in volume of 21.1 percent," said Kombes Sambodo to reporters, Tuesday, September 29.

The most prominent decrease in the number of vehicles was observed on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman and MH Thamrin. The decrease in vehicle volume is due to the fact that many offices implement a work from home (WFH) system.

However, Sambodo emphasized that traffic personnel were still on alert. The goal is to regulate and monitor traffic flow.

"If there is no traffic jam either, but we will still deploy personnel," he said.
