Instead Of Being Treated, Employers In The Middle East Dispose Of PMI From Cianjur In A State Of Illness, Manpower And Transmigration Office Will Return Bodies

CIANJUR - The Manpower and Transmigration Service (Disnakertrans) in Cianjur, West Java, immediately repatriated the bodies of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) who were in the Middle East. PMI named Lilis Komariah died after being abandoned by her employer while she was sick in front of the Indonesian Embassy.

The Head of Manpower Placement and Development of Expansion of Employment Opportunities at the Cianjur Manpower and Transmigration Office, Yani Yuliawati, said that migrant workers from Cianjur had been treated for several days in hospitals in Saudi Arabia.

"We received a report that the migrant worker on behalf of Lilis Komariah (47), a resident of Karangtengah Subdistrict who was abandoned in a sick condition in front of the Indonesian Embassy office, finally died, related to funerals so that we will try to fulfill their rights," he said in Cianjur, Antara, Thursday, April 7th.

His party is still waiting for the family's decision whether the body will be buried in Cianjur or in Saudi Arabia. For workers' rights that have not been paid, the agency will coordinate with the Indonesian Embassy. "We will encourage the fulfillment of rights as long as Lilis works there," he said.

The chairman of the Greater Indonesian Migrant Workers Association (Astakira) Cianjur, Ali Hildan said that he had received a report from the Indonesian Embassy regarding a migrant worker from Cianjur who died after being abandoned in a sick condition in front of the Indonesian Embassy in Saudi Arabia, so he was immediately taken to a local hospital.

"The victim left using a pilgrimage visa or departed non-procedurally, so that the related parties had difficulty contacting the family. When found in front of the Indonesian Embassy office, the victim was in a semi-conscious condition because the illness was quite severe," he said.

After three days of treatment, Lilis died in the hospital. Migrant workers who have just worked in February 2022 are neglected by their employers, so they will sue the sponsors and employers to be held accountable.

"Want to go procedurally or non-procedurally, this proves that there are still many unscrupulous workers playing because the moratorium is still running, this must be a concern for all parties, especially the government," he said.
