Dozens Of Houses In Cianjur Were Damaged As A Result Of Being Hit By A Tornado

CIANJUR - Dozens of houses in Ciwalen Village, Sukaresmi District, Cianjur Regency, West Java, were heavily damaged on the roof after being hit by a tornado.

Secretary of BPBD Cianjur, Rudi Wibowo said the tornado that hit the village had made residents panic because it was approaching iftar.

There were no fatalities in the disaster and it was recorded that as of Wednesday night eight heads of families were forced to flee to the homes of neighbors or relatives.

"Officers in the field are still collecting data on how many houses were damaged, but eight families have temporarily evacuated because their roofs were badly damaged," he said, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, April 6.

It was noted that several seed nurseries were also damaged on the roof that was swept away by the tornado, resulting in an estimated loss of Rp. 100 million.

As of Wednesday night, residents assisted by officers tried to repair the roofs of houses that were lightly and moderately damaged.

A resident Fahrizal Ardiansyah (26) said that before the typhoon hit the village, residents had seen black clouds like it was going to rain, but after a while the wind was blowing hard causing a whirlwind over the village.

"If you look at the damage, more than 13 houses were heavily damaged, while more than 20 houses were lightly and seriously damaged. Strong winds came suddenly with their tails shattering the roofs of houses. Residents had to stay outside for a long time for fear of another tornado," he said.

Currently, joint BPBD officers, TNI/Polri and residents are working together to remove trees of various sizes that have fallen and roofing material that has fallen in the yard.
