JAMBI - Jambi Governor Al Haris together with the Jambi Province Food Task Force team visited a number of traditional markets in the Jambi City area to ensure food supplies were available ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.

"In our review, agricultural food ingredients such as chilies, onions and other foodstuffs are quite under control, that some commodities have dropped prices," said Al Haris in Jambi, Antara, Wednesday, March 30.

Likewise, the availability of frozen meat is still widely available in Bulog warehouses and at private traders in the Jambi Province.

Al Haris emphasized that the government will continue to review the availability and stability of food prices on the market. Given the community's need for these foodstuffs increases during Ramadan until Eid al-Fitr.

The traditional markets reviewed by the Governor of Jambi include the Jambi Angso Duo Market, Talang Banjar Market and Simpang Pulai Market. However, the government's concern in that area is the availability of bulk cooking oil on the market, which in the last two weeks has experienced a shortage.

Al Haris confirmed that bulk cooking oil at producer level is available. However, the distribution of cooking oil from these producers is constrained by storage tanks that are not available at the merchant level, causing a shortage.

"Three days ago we met with bulk cooking oil producers, their stocks are available," said Al Haris.

To anticipate the scarcity of bulk cooking oil, the Jambi Governor asked the Trade Office to cooperate with Bulog to provide storage tanks for bulk cooking oil in traditional markets.

Thus, it is hoped that the distribution of the cooking oil can be done better.

"If bulk cooking oil is scarce, it will trigger high prices for packaged cooking oil, this must be followed up immediately," said Al Haris.
