Nadiem-Yaqut Affirms Madrasas Still Regulated By National Education System Bill

JAKARTA - Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Mendikbudristek) Nadiem Makarim and Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas opened their voices about the disappearance of the phrase "madrasah: in the draft Law on the National Education System (Sisdiknas).

Nadiem said, Kemendikbudristek continues to coordinate with the Ministry of Religion regarding programs to improve the quality of Indonesian education. Therefore, Nadiem emphasized, the government had no intention of removing madrasas from the National Education System.

"From the start, there was no desire or plan to remove schools, madrasas, or other forms of education units from the national education system. A thing that doesn't make sense and doesn't even cross our minds," said Nadiem as seen in the video uploaded on Instagram nadiemmakarim , Wednesday, March 30.

Nadiem said that substantially schools and madrasas remain part of the educational pathways regulated in the body of the revised National Education System Bill.

However, specific names, such as SD and MI, SMP and MTs, or SMA, SMK, and MA will be explained in the explanation section.

"The goal is that the naming of the form of an educational unit is not tied to the level of the law so that it is much more flexible and dynamic," said Nadiem.

Furthermore, Nadiem explained the four main points formulated in the National Education System Bill. First, education standard policies that accommodate regional diversity and innovation.

Second, the compulsory education policy is complemented by a right to learn policy. Third, the policy of structuring the teaching profession to be more inclusive and professional. Fourth, the policy of increasing autonomy and improving the governance of higher education.

Continuing, Yaqut emphasized that the National Education System Bill would continue to give strong attention to the existence of Islamic boarding schools and madrasas. Bearing in mind, the nomenclature of madrasas and pesantren is also included in the body and articles in the National Education System Bill.

"I also believe that by promoting independence and flexibility in the National Education System Bill, the quality of learning for all students in Indonesia will improve, and the quality of our education system will improve in the future," he added.
