JAKARTA - Indonesian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Husin Bagis believes the number of tourists from the United Arab Emirates to Indonesia will increase in line with the release of the COVID-19 quarantine for foreign travelers implemented by the Indonesian government due to the control of the pandemic.

"For tourism, especially now that we are free to visit Indonesia and some planes will be added to Bali as well as from Emirates Dubai, surely many UAE people will come to Indonesia," Husin told ANTARA at the Indonesia Pavilion, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Monday, March 28.

Husin targets that by 2022 the number of tourists from the United Arab Emirates to Indonesia can reach at least half of the number of tourists from the United Arab Emirates visiting Thailand.

"At least 50 percent below Thailand. If Thailand is 140 thousand to 150 thousand tourists, we are half the first," said Husin.

According to Husin, the presence of the Indonesian Pavilion at the Expo 2020 Dubai event also supports the achievement of this target because more and more people from the United Arab Emirates will know Indonesia.

The number of visitors to the Indonesian Pavilion is currently almost reaching the target of 2.5 million visitors or 10 percent of the visitor target for Expo 2020 Dubai.

Data from the Indonesian Pavilion recorded that on Monday (28/3) as many as 2.44 million people had visited the Indonesian Pavilion, which will be opened from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022.

The Indonesian Pavilion carries the theme "Creating the Future, From Indonesia to The World" with the concept of "Connecting Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow" which displays the historical journey and Indonesia's important role in the global arena.

This concept can be enjoyed through offerings in the form of innovation, technology, to the advancement of the trade industry so that visitors can capture Indonesia's journey and contribution to global developments.

Husin also emphasized that his party will boost cooperation with all stakeholders in the United Arab Emirates to encourage people to come and travel to the country.

"So we will all work together with all parties here, including next week I want to send YouTubers from Dubai to Jakarta, to Lombok as well to see Indonesia. With this Youtuber, we can encourage UAE people to Indonesia," said Husin.
