JAKARTA - The drafting of the National Education System Bill (RUU Sisdiknas) has been highlighted by a number of experts. Because in the draft circulating in the community, it is alleged that the phrase 'madrasah' as a type of education in Indonesia was deleted in the National Education System Bill.

The leaked information on the revised draft of the National Education System Law that was leaked to the public was confirmed by the Chairman of Commission X of the House of Representatives, Syaiful Huda. Initially, Huda revealed that during the past three months his commission had received letters either protesting, rejecting, or delaying the revision of the National Education System Law.

Until finally Commission X held an audience initiated by the Indonesian Education Providers Alliance (APPI) last week.

"Everyone was present, from PGRI, Taman Siswa, Muhammadiyah and so on. Then there were those from education stakeholders, the Indonesian Education Graduate Association and so on. They questioned everything regarding the draft revision of the National Education System Law," Huda told reporters, Monday, March 28.

During the hearing, he continued, one of the leaders of the education stakeholders complained about the way the Ministry of Education and Culture involved them in designing the draft revision of the National Education System Law. They also asked about the issue of the omission of the phrase 'madrasa'.

However, the House of Representatives Commission X could not answer APPI's questions because it had not yet received the draft National Education System Bill. So he could not confirm whether or not the phrase madrasah had disappeared.

"They said that they only asked for 5 minutes, via zoom. That was the confession of the General Chairperson of PGRI, Prof. Uni and so on. When they came to Commission X and we received, 'is it true that there is an omission of the phrase madrasa and so on?' We can't answer because the draft hasn't arrived yet and everything is still at the discussion level on the government side," said the PKB politician.

Huda said there were 2 proposals from APPI regarding the revision of the National Education System Law. They requested that the submission of the revised draft of the National Education System Law to the DPR be postponed and discussed again. He then asked that the draft be more complete before being submitted to the DPR.

"Their aspiration is for the government to create a national working group that involves all education stakeholders to jointly work out a draft revision of the National Education System Law before it is given to the next stage, which is discussed in the DPR," Huda explained.

Huda also regretted that the Ministry of Education and Culture seemed indifferent in responding to this issue. He also urged Mendikbudristek Nadiem Makarim to give instructions to his staff to involve educational entities more in drafting the National Education System Bill.

"I criticize the expansion of participation and its substantive nature is not maximized," he said.
