Head of the Surabaya Environment Agency (DLH), Agus Hebi Djuniantoro, said that five "trash boom" installation points were carried out on the Asemrowo River, the Tambak Wedi channel, namely Pegirian, Mrutu, Kali Tebu and Pogot.
"This is an effort to facilitate the cleaning of garbage in the river, and we thank Wings Group Indonesia for providing assistance in the form of a trash boom or garbage filter to the Surabaya City Government," Agus said as quoted by Antara, Friday, March 25.
The representative of the Wings Peduli Foundation, Oucky Hertanto, said that the Surabaya City Government was providing trash boom assistance to collect trash, so that cleaning could be carried out optimally.
"For the value of the assistance, I can't mention the specifics because we built the trash boom ourselves. And we refer to the implementation of this trash boom as in Bali, then we apply it in Surabaya," said Oucky.
He explained that the trash boom is made of paralon with an iron ballast in the middle to trap trash, and its length can be adjusted to the size of the river.
"The width of the river in Asemrowo reaches 33 meters and we will help install it with that size. For other rivers the average width is 25 meters, and we will make the same size," he said.
While related to river clean-up actions, said Oucky, Wings Group Indonesia encourages the involvement of the entire community to jointly carry out river clean-up actions. The goal is to increase awareness of the importance of maintaining cleanliness and environmental sustainability, especially in watersheds (DAS).
In addition to involving the community, Oucky said, he also participated in renting out a 200-foot pontoon boat that will be used for four months to clean the drainage system in Asemrowo and Kali Tebu, which functions to transport excavators and normalize rivers.
"This cleaning is expected to provide many benefits. Such as reducing household waste, reducing risks and assisting the flood prevention process, as well as increasing water capacity which can facilitate drainage flow," he said.
