PHRI: G20 Agenda Boost Jotel Occupancy In Yogyakarta

YOGYAKARTA - The Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta acknowledged that the series of G20 agendas that took place in Yogyakarta were effective in increasing hotel room occupancy or occupancy by up to 20 percent.

"The impact for the four and five-star hotels is an increase in occupancy from 30 percent in the past, now it can reach almost 50 percent," said PHRI DIY Chair Deddy Pranawa Eryana, quoted by Antara, Thursday, March 24.

According to him, apart from the Royal Ambarrukmo, Tentrem, Sheraton, and Hyatt hotels as the main venues for the G20 meeting, other four and five-star hotels were also chosen as places to stay for the companions or families of the G20 delegates.

"It turns out that many of the G20 delegates brought their families. Almost six hotels were used, even though it was not appointed by the G20 committee," said Deddy.

The positive impact of the G20 agenda, he continued, was also felt by three-star hotels and below because the selection of DIY as one of the destinations for the G20 meeting emphasized that this province was safe, comfortable, and healthy to visit.

"If it is not safe, comfortable, and healthy, of course it will not be chosen as the venue for the G20," he said.

This positive impact, according to Deddy, was further strengthened by the decline in the status of PPKM in DIY from level 4 to level 3.

In addition to tourists or family category guests, according to him, MICE activities (meetings, incentives, conventions, exhibitions) both from the ministry and the private sector have also emerged.

"This has become our breath, after yesterday, level 4 was delayed, and now we have started to make reservations again. But we are still concerned that not all hotels have experienced this, especially the non-star ones," said Deddy.

Grand Inna Malioboro Public Relations Manager Retno Kusuma said that since March 20, 2022, the Grand Inna Malioboro hotel occupancy has been above 85 percent.

He assessed that the high rate of hotel room occupancy was due to the recovering customer confidence, thus holding national-scale events in DIY.

"Along with the decline in PPKM levels, hotel occupancy rates also increase," he said.
