Allegedly Lost While Seeking Help For Sprained Friends, Climber Lost On Mount Arjuno, East Java

MALANG - A climber named Muhammad Niam Kurniawan, a resident of Pandaan, Pasuruan Regency, East Java, was reported missing on Mount Arjuno.

The climber was reported missing since Saturday, March 19 after being separated from his group while descending the mountain.

Head of Resort 3 Tahura R Soerdjo Pasuruan Region, Agus Budi Utomo, confirmed this report. Allegedly, the climber lost his way while seeking help for a female climbing partner who sprained her leg.

The SAR team finally took the initiative to conduct a search after receiving reports that 2 climbers had not descended. During the search, the SAR team managed to find a female climbing partner and evacuate her down.

"However, the figure of this male climber has yet to be found. It is suspected that he lost his way when he went down to look for help to the post,” he said, Tuesday, March 22.

Currently, SAR officers assisted by local volunteers are still trying to search for victims in the climbing area of Mount Arjuno.

"The search process is still ongoing," he said.
