Kemenkopolhukam Recommendation Letter Issued, 114 Rohingya Refugees In Bireuen Aceh Immediately Transferred

ACEH - A total of 114 Rohingya refugees in Term District, Bireuen Regency, Aceh were immediately transferred to Pekanbaru, Riau Province following the issuance of a recommendation from the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs.

"The plan (to move to Pekanbaru), last night the Regional Government had prepared a bus station and filled with fuel. But there may not be ready so that it was postponed," said the Head of Term District of Bireuen Alfian who was contacted from Banda Aceh, Antara, Tuesday, March 22.

The discourse of moving to Pekanbaru was due to the recommendation of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs. In the process, IOM and UNHCR will also assist them, moreover they have been coordinating with the government there.

"There is no readiness for a place in Pekanbaru, but they are willing to accommodate. Maybe this Thursday, our submission will be answered again," he said.

Currently, said Alfian, the Rohingya refugees are being placed in the multipurpose hall of the local sub-district office after three Rohingyas failed to escape from the previous shelter location.

"While they were already in the sub-district office building, after the incident three people fled and were arrested that same night," he said.

So far, said Alfian, the condition of the Rohingya refugees is in good health, or no one is seriously ill and is worrying.

Previously, as many as 114 ethnic Rohingya were stranded in the Kuala Raja coastal area, Alue Buya Pasie Village, Jangka District, Bireuen Regency, Sunday (6/3) in the morning around 02.00 WIB.

After landing, the refugees were accommodated in one of the prayer rooms by the local community. Of the 114 Rohingya, there are 68 adult men and 21 adult women and 35 children.
