Arriving At Metro Jaya Police, Haris Azhar Mentioned The Determination Of The Status Of Suspects With Political Elements

JAKARTA - Director of Lokataru, Haris Azhar answered the summons of the Metro Jaya Police. He will be questioned as a suspect in the alleged defamation of the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Luhut Binsar Panjaitan.

According to VOI monitoring, Haris Azhar arrived at the Metro Jaya Police Special Criminal Directorate building at around 10.48 a.m.

Haris, who was wearing a blue shirt, was accompanied by several of his lawyers.

However, the KontraS coordinator, Fatia Maulidyanti, did not appear in the group. In fact, he is also scheduled to be questioned as a suspect today.

Before undergoing the examination, Haris had time to give a statement. He considered the determination of the suspect to be political in nature.

"This (political element, ed)," said Haris Azhar to reporters, Monday, March 21

Haris also considers this a form of silence in criticizing. In fact, it shows there is a discriminatory law.

"This is an attempt to silence me, to silence civil society and at the same time it shows that there is discrimination in law enforcement," said Haris.

Haris Azhar and KontraS Coordinator, Fatia Maulidiyanti, have been named suspects for alleged defamation of the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.

In this case, Luhut reported Haris Azhar and Fatia Maulidiyanti for the circulation of a video entitled "There is Lord Luhut Behind Intan Jaya's Economic Relations-Military Ops" on Haris Azhar's YouTube account.

The determination of this suspect was strongly condemned by the National Committee for Agrarian Reform (KNPA). KNPA considers the police to have criminalized activists. Because, according to him, the law should not be given to critics.

Fines and criminal sanctions for critics accused of defamation should be replaced with the right to correct or answer.
