Heavy Rain And Strong Wind, 18 Spots In Malang City Flood

MALANG - Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds that occurred in the city of Malang, East Java resulted in 18 points in the area experiencing flooding.

Head of the Malang City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Alie Mulyanto, said that flooding occurred at a dozen points spread across five sub-districts.

"Reports coming in for flooding are almost evenly distributed in five sub-districts, there are approximately 18 points," he said, quoted by Antara, Friday, March 18.

A total of 18 points that experienced flooding during heavy rains accompanied by strong winds for approximately one hour, among others, occurred in the area of Jalan Borobudur, Jalan Letjen S Parman, Jalan A Yani, Sulfat area in Blimbing District.

Then, flooding was also reported in the Sawojajar area, Kedungkandang District, then Attorney General Suprapto Street, Bareng Street and Galunggung Street in the Klojen District.

The flood, he continued, was caused by rain with high intensity even in a fairly short time. Currently, the stagnant water in a number of these areas is reported to have begun to recede.

"The flooding was caused by high intensity rain. Now it has receded and the duration of the rain is not long," said Alie Mulyanto.

On Monday (14/3), heavy rain with high intensity also flushed the Malang City area, and caused flooding at points spread across five sub-districts in Malang City. There are at least 26 points that have been reported to have flooded in the area.

One of the most severe flood points is at Jalan Simpang Teluk Bayur, Pandanwangi Village, Blimbing District, Malang City. At that point, the water level was reported to reach 2.5 meters during high-intensity rains.
