Hundreds Of Dekai Residents Return To Home After Evacuating Due To Riots In Yahukimo Ppaua

JAYAPURA - Around 200 Dekai residents who had fled to the Yahukimo Police Headquarters, shortly after the riots occurred, have now returned to their homes.

Police Chief Yahukimo AKBP Deni Herdiana said residents fled out of fear because the demonstrators burned down a number of shop houses (ruko).

Those who fled were mostly women and children, while the men guarded their shop houses, said Deni while informing the residents who still remained at the Yahukimo Police Headquarters about 50 people.

While in the refugee camp members of the Yahukimo Police Binmas and the Cartenz Peace Task Force carried out trauma recovery.

It also invites residents who have not dared to go home or who have become victims as a result of their shophouses being burned to stay at the Resort Police Headquarters, said AKBP Deni Herdiana.

The demonstration against the expansion or new autonomous regions (DOB) that took place on Tuesday (15/3), was anarchic as the demonstrators set fire to and threw a number of buildings, including the Kominfo Yahukimo office, whose courtyard was the place where the demonstrators gave speeches.

As a result, from temporary data, two residents died, two were injured by gunfire and two police officers were injured.

The residents who died were Yakob Dell (30) and Erson Weibsa (20), two gunshot wounds, Itos Itlay and Lucky Kobak, and two members of the Yahukimo Police were reported injured, one of whom was Brigadier Muhammad Aldi.
