JAKARTA - The COVID-19 Handling Task Force (Satgas) said the government is reviewing regulations regarding community homecoming activities for Eid 2022 amid the adaptation period for controlling COVID-19 cases.

"The government is reviewing this by ensuring that the transmission of COVID-19 can be controlled by ensuring complete vaccination coverage and increasing boosters," said Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, as quoted by Antara, Thursday, March 17.

According to him, the government will also ensure that the implementation of health protocols is carried out with discipline by the community.

In addition, he continued, the government will also continue to strive to suppress daily cases, occupancy of beds in hospitals and deaths due to COVID-19 so that they can be consistently low as capital in facing Eid. "This is our common capital to face a safe Eid with COVID-19," he said.

Wiku said the government would announce a policy regarding Lebaran homecoming when it was ready.

Regarding the current condition of the case, Wiku said that the national positive cases fell 64 percent from the peak after showing a downward trend for three consecutive weeks.

"After passing its peak at 390,000 cases, the number of additional weekly positive cases is currently 140,000 cases, down 250,000 cases from its peak," he explained.

Another good news, continued Wiku, is that the decline in positive cases has also occurred in all provinces in Indonesia. Last week, not a single province experienced a higher number of cases compared to the previous week.

In line with the positive cases, Wiku also said that active cases have consistently shown a downward trend for two consecutive weeks. To date, it has fallen to 52 percent from the peak.

Active cases as of 24 February 2022 were recorded to have reached their highest point of 580,000 cases, while as of 16 March 2022 the number of active cases was 280,000 cases.

"Nevertheless, that figure is still much higher, up to three and a half times compared to the active cases on February 1, 2022 before the spike in cases occurred," he said.

In the midst of Indonesia's success in suppressing the spike in cases, Wiku emphasized that the next big task is policy adjustments made by the government which must be accompanied by increasing public awareness.

"In the adaptation period when many policies have been readjusted, the awareness and responsibility of each person is the key to controlling cases," said Wiku.
