SURABAYA - 76 traders of Pasar Turi Surabaya who occupy temporary shelters (TPS) after the market fires, have registered for a booth in the new building, ahead of the scheduled opening on March 22, 2022.

General Manager of Pasar Turi Baru, Teddy Supriyadi in Surabaya, Wednesday said that based on the latest data, there were 153 traders occupying TPS, and so far, 76 traders have registered to get a booth at Pasar Turi Baru.

"We, as managers of Pasar Turi, are still verifying dozens of traders from TPS to get booths in the new building, and those who have passed the verification will get booths at Pasar Turi Baru with special prices," he said, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, March 16.

He explained, out of 76 traders, 53 traders had passed the verification carried out by the Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises and Trade Office of the Surabaya City Government.

Based on the recommendation of the Mayor of Surabaya, Eri Cahyadi, an old trader who was a victim of the fire got a booth with a special price, namely buying it for Rp. 150 million.

Meanwhile, traders at TPS who are not verified, have to rent or buy according to the standard scheme of Pasar Turi Baru management, which costs four times as much per booth.

Meanwhile, since Pasar Turi burned down in 2012, the Surabaya City Government has provided TPS as a place to sell for traders.

The Mayor of Surabaya, Eri Cahyadi, after meeting with seven organizations of Pasar Turi traders and the manager of Pasar Turi Baru, guaranteed that all registered Pasar Turi traders would get a booth with a special price.

The target is that Pasar Turi Baru must be operational by March 22, 2022. Furthermore, the Surabaya City Government will remove TPS assets which are located right in front of the Pasar Turi Baru building.
