JAKARTA - The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf), Sandiaga Uno, hopes that the 2022 Mandalika MotoGP which will take place in the next few days can run smoothly and be free from weather constraints. One of the steps taken to anticipate this is by utilizing weather modification technology.

Initially, Sandiaga had mentioned the use of a rain handler at a Working Meeting with Commission X DPR RI, Wednesday, March 16. He hopes that the weather will be sunny when the 2022 MotoGP grand event takes place using the services of a rain handler.

However, Sandiaga canceled the plan considering that previously the handler failed to ward off rain during the World SuperBike (WBSK) event at the Mandalika Circuit, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

"When the World SuperBike was there there was a handler (it rained). But in the end the handler sued the committee, sir. Because the handler (cancelled), it's still raining," said Sandiaga, greeted by laughter from members of Commission X.

"So this is what we continue to work on with TMC, sir. It's called weather modification technology. So it involves BRIN, BMKG and the Indonesian Air Force. We hope that we can help mitigate the situation," he continued.

Sandiaga hopes that the international motorcycle racing activity can take place lively, without rain like what happened at the 2022 WSBK yesterday. According to him, various preparations have been completed.

"We have prepared this MotoGP. Just yesterday we completed the synchronization meeting. Everything is ready to go, 100 percent. But of course we have to pray to Allah SWT because this weather is something we need to anticipate too," he said.

On the same occasion, Chairman of Commission X DPR RI, Syaiful Huda, responded to Sandiaga's joke by saying that the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy should only use the services of traditional and modern rain handlers. The goal is to ensure that it doesn't rain.

"Just double it, mas. The usual rain handler is the same as the TMC one," said Huda.

Huda's words again invited the laughter of the meeting participants in the Commission X meeting room.
