JAKARTA - The perpetrator of coal dust pollution in the Marunda area, PT Karya Citra Nusantara (KCN), has received administrative sanctions from the DKI Provincial Government. PT KCN is required to deal with the air pollution within the specified time.

Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria emphasized that his party could revoke the permit of the port management company if the problem was not resolved.

"We have sent a letter to KCN, given 60 to 90 days to immediately improve the waste management. If there is no improvement by that time, the permit may be revoked later," said Riza at City Hall, Wednesday, March 16.

The chairman of the DKI Gerindra Party DPD opens the opportunity so that the community can receive compensation if they experience the direct impact of losses from coal dust that spreads in Marunda.

"For those affected, please report it. We will ask KCN to be responsible and the government to be responsible," he said.

For information, Marunda residents began to feel this air pollution disturbance since 2018 due to the management of loading and unloading activities for solid and wet bulk commodities, including coal by PT KCN.

Four years since coal dust pollution, many residents have complained that their health conditions are disturbed, ranging from respiratory problems or ARI, skin diseases such as itching, to damage to the eyes. Coal dust pollution is also proven in the RPTRA Marunda Flats. Every time, RPTRA officers have to sweep the floor and clean children's toys in the RPTRA yard because coal dust often sticks.

Until finally, the DKI Provincial Government reacted. On Tuesday, March 15, the DKI Environment Agency imposed an administrative sanction on PT KCN. PT KCN was proven to have polluted coal dust in loading and unloading activities which resulted in losses for Marunda residents.

In giving the sanction, the port management company was ordered to improve its environmental management and not pollute the environment.

PT KCN was ordered to improve environmental management as many as 32 items. In addition, PT KCN must also fulfill 31 other recommendation items contained in the administrative sanctions imposed by the government.
