Playing CCTV During Sunardi's Arrest, Komnas HAM: Asked To Stop Reluctantly, Seempetan Until Sparks Appeared

JAKARTA - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) has revealed the video of the arrest of the terrorist suspect, Doctor Sunardi, in Sukoharjo, Central Java.

Komnas HAM commissioner Choirul Anam said the video was obtained from public CCTV. From there, it was known that there were nine warning shots and shots at Sunardi.

"We showed everything in the process, including the chronology of the shots. So there were nine shots, nine shots, one down," Anam said on the Indonesian National Human Rights Commission's YouTube show, Tuesday, March 15.

The video begins with Sunardi driving a double cabin on a road. At that time, Anam said there were no members of Densus 88 because they were still making sure the car driver was their target or not.

"This is starting to be followed, earlier we explained in some detail at this point there were two people in the double cabin who had already entered there. That's what the members are," said Anam.

He said Sunardi was driving his car at high speed. Furthermore, the officer who had climbed into the back of the car asked Sunardi to stop his vehicle but what happened was the opposite.

Sunardi, continued Anam, ignored the order, so Detachment 88 gave warning shots. "These are two police officers. So after being warned, yes, they were told to stop and so on. They were warned to stop, they were intercepted by the officers, after that they still did," he explained, pointing to the video shown on the projector.

"Want to be given a warning shot after getting off, it was shown that he was a policeman who kept going. That's where there was the first crash. Well, here, the officer who got out of the Innova officer's car went up to the cabin," Anam added.

After this incident, it was inevitable that Sunardi and Detachment 88 would chase Sunardi. Anam said that Sunardi's car had driven to the side of the road.

In fact, the double cabin car was hit by the officer's car, causing a fire to appear. "Indi was squeezed but was still told to stop, he didn't want to," he said.

"This is the boundary of this asphalt road, the land, like on the shoulder of the road on a toll road. This is something that is clearer but doesn't want to stop. It then started to spread until sparks appeared. So it was a chase process," added Anam.

Anam then said that Sunardi also did not want to stop when Densus 88 shot him. Prior to that, the member who was going to arrest had actually shown an arrest warrant.

"Given a shot in the air (warning shot, ed) it didn't stop. The one on the left (passenger area, ed) didn't stop shooting at the front either, then shooting the hand didn't stop, shooting the shoulder didn't stop, shooting at the body didn't stop in the end just hit," he explained.

It was previously reported that Sunardi died after being shot by Densus 88 Anti-terror during a series of arrests in Sukoharjo Regency, Central Java, March 9. Sunardi, who is said to be a doctor, suffered gunshot wounds to his upper back and right hip.
