BUKITTINGGI - Five stalls selling liquor in the Pasar Bawah area of Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, were demolished by security officers because they were standing in an area owned by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI).

"There are five units of shops or stalls that we have managed after 2 months earlier warning letters (SP) one to three were ignored by the tenants. They misused it to sell liquor," said Head of Public Relations of PT KAI Divre II West Sumatra, Budi Erlangga in Bukittinggi, Antara , Monday, March 14.

The demolition was carried out by joint officers, both from the Bukittinggi City Satpol PP, TNI/Polri, PT KAI Special Police.

"This is also in accordance with the instructions and reports from the Mayor of Bukittinggi, after our survey, it turned out to be true for buying and selling liquor," said Budi.

The control of KAI's assets was without resistance from the tenants who were forced to remove their belongings with the help of officers.

Furthermore, his party will review the next tenant because they don't want to be fooled again by the tenant violating the contract clause agreement.

One of the tenants who did not want to give his name said that this control seemed forced without any tolerance for delays. "We have asked for it to be vacated after Eid. However, it has not been heeded," he said.

On the other hand, residents around the control site welcomed the demolition of this liquor store for reasons of convenience.

"Almost every night there is noise and singing. The activities of people who drink alcohol here are troubling us," said Emi, a local resident.

It is also hoped that a prayer room will be built so that it is easier to access the worship of traders and local residents.

"There is information saying that a prayer room will be built as a replacement for the place that was torn down, of course we really support it, hopefully it will be realized and implemented by the Bukittinggi City Government," he said.
