JAKARTA - Floods caused 1,248 houses inundated. As a result, 1,612 families with a total of 5,160 people in three villages in the Cirebon Regency, West Java Province, were affected.

Head of the Cirebon Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Alex Suheriyawan, said that the flood hit parts of the Banjarwangunan and Mundupesisir villages in Mundu District and Mekarsari Village in Waled District.

"In Banjarwangunan Village, (the flooding) occurred in the Puri Indah and Grand Firdaus housing estates, while in Mundupesisir Village it occurred in the Kalijaga Block," said Alex, Monday, March 14.

In addition, he said, flooding occurred in the Manis, Pon, Kliwon, and Wage blocks in Mekarsari Village, Waled District.

Alex said that water started to enter the residents' houses on Sunday (13/3) night, after several hours of heavy rain that had drenched the three villages.

The flood had caused the inundation of settlements as high as 30 to 80 cm and forced at least 179 residents to evacuate. However, the inundation began to recede in the early hours of Monday morning.

"Alhamdulillah, it has receded in the early hours of Monday morning, residents have also started cleaning their respective houses," said Mundu sub-district head Anwar Sadat as quoted by Antara.

According to local residents, the flooding occurred partly because the river was silting up so it could not hold water when it rained with high intensity.

According to residents, residents of the Cimanuk-Cisanggarung River Basin Center (BBWS) have surveyed the condition of the river.

"BBWS has had a chance to do a survey. He said he wanted to dredge the river, but in fact it has not been carried out until now," said Erpan, a resident whose house was affected by the flood.
