Police In South Sumatra Facilitate Persons With Disabilities To Have SIM D

BATURAJA - Ogan Komering Ulu Resort Police, South Sumatra is ready to facilitate people with disabilities in the area so that they can have a Driving Permit (SIM) D as a rule for driving on the highway.

"Everyone must have a driver's license as a condition for driving cars and motorbikes, including people with disabilities," said Head of the Traffic Unit of the Ogan Komering Ulu Police (OKU), AKP Sutrisman in Baturaja, Sunday, March 13.

He explained, people who have physical limitations or people with disabilities are required to have a driver's license with class D to drive alone on the highway.

The rules are contained in Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation Article 242.

The regulation states that both the central and local governments, as well as public transportation companies are required to provide special treatment in the field of road traffic and transportation to persons with disabilities, the elderly, children, pregnant women, and the sick.

"Driving and using public transportation facilities is the right of all people, including people with disabilities," he said.

Therefore, his party is ready to help the process of making SIM D for people with disabilities on the condition that they must pass the stages of the SIM-making process.

The requirements for obtaining a driver's license for this class include a written application, being able to read and write, being skilled at driving a motorized vehicle, physically and mentally healthy and passing theoretical and practical exams.

"We will socialize the program which was just launched this year so that all persons with disabilities in OKU have the same right to drive on the highway," he said.
