M 5.1 Earthquake Shakes Bayah Banten, BPBD Lebak: We Make Sure The Tectonic Earthquake Is Relatively Safe

LEBAK - An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 rocked Banten on Thursday, March 12, at noon WIB. The earthquake, which was centered in the southwest of Bayah, Banten, was a shallow earthquake caused by active fault activity on the seabed.

The shock of this earthquake was reportedly felt as far as Cianjur. However, until now there have been no reports of damage caused by the earthquake.

The Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Lebak Regency, Banten, Febby Rizky Pratama stated that his party had not yet received reports of damage to road infrastructure, buildings and houses due to the tectonic earthquake.

"So far, we have not received reports from villages, sub-districts and volunteers regarding the damage or casualties caused by the earthquake," said Febby, as reported by Antara.

The people on the southern coast of Lebak Regency, which is close to the epicenter of the earthquake, had scattered out of their homes. Luckily, this incident did not cause any casualties or injuries. "We ensure that the tectonic earthquake is relatively safe and does not cause damage to houses," said Febby. The coastal communities in the area seem to be accustomed to being hit by earthquakes and are not affected by economic activities.

"We are used to the earthquake and don't panic and continue to trade as usual," said Tati (55), a resident of East Bayah, Lebak Regency.
