Grief From The Flash Flood Of Tuban, One Person Is Reported Dead

JAKARTA - Flash floods that hit six villages in Tuban Regency, East Java Province, Thursday, March 10 resulted in the death of one resident. This is the report of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).

"Due to this incident, a resident was reported to have died," said the acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari in a written statement received in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Friday, March 11.

The results of a temporary rapid assessment by the Tuban Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Team, the six affected villages include Temayang Village, Padasan Village, Karanglo Village, Jorojero Village, Margomulyo Village and Wolutengah Village in Kerek District.

Based on a visual report, Abdul reported that the flood currents were observed to be quite heavy across residential areas.

The flood caused a mini bus to be dragged by the flood currents into the river. The joint team has evacuated the car wreck using makeshift tools.

Flash floods due to heavy rains also caused one embankment to collapse.

"Meanwhile, the number of other losses caused by the incident is still in the process of further data collection," said Abdu

Abdul said the Tuban Regency BPBD together with relevant agencies, volunteers and the community continued to carry out rapid assessments, evacuations and rescues of affected residents. Meanwhile, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued weather early warning information which states that light to moderate rain and that can be accompanied by lightning still has the potential to occur in the area. Tuban Regency until Saturday.

In response to this, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) appealed to all elements of policy makers in the regions and the community to anticipate potential aftershocks that could be triggered by weather factors.

Efforts such as monitoring and managing watersheds (DAS), cleaning garbage and other materials that can clog water flow, monitoring the condition of embankments, roads and bridges, and monitoring water discharge during heavy rains are recommended to be carried out regularly.

Abdul appealed to anticipate and be prepared in the face of potential aftershocks, the community along the river to evacuate temporarily if there is continuous rain with high intensity for more than one hour. Pay attention to river discharge conditions and avoid steep slopes with minimal vegetation.
