Inspection Of Sako Kenten Traditional Market In Palembang, BPOM Finds Kwitiew Containing Corpse Formalin

PALEMBANG - The team from the Center for Drug and Food Control (BPOM) together with the City Government of Palembang, South Sumatra, again found food containing the dangerous chemical form of corpse formaldehyde in a traditional market.

The formalin food was discovered when the BPOM team and the Palembang City Government led by Deputy Mayor Fitrianti Agustinda conducted a surprise inspection and tested samples of 35 foodstuffs sold at the Sako Kenten Traditional Market in Palembang, Wednesday, March 9.

Fitrianti said that the results of the food sample test found that one product, namely kwetiau, contained a corpse preservative or formalin which was harmful to public health.

With the discovery of foodstuffs containing formaldehyde in traditional markets, his party together with BPOM will continue to promote unannounced inspections to check the feasibility of consuming food products in traditional and modern markets.

"The team continues to improve surveillance by testing samples or raiding food containing chemicals that are harmful to public health," he said at the inspection site, Antara, Wednesday, March 9.

Hazardous food raids conducted in traditional and modern markets in recent years have shown good results, although now one or two dangerous food products are still being found.

In addition to conducting raids, his party also seeks to educate the public carefully before buying food products and take advantage of the BPOM corner in traditional markets to ensure that the goods purchased are safe for consumption.

Meanwhile, previously the Head of the Center for Drug and Food Control (BBPOM) Palembang Zulkifli said he was trying to support the local municipal government in controlling food products that are harmful to public health.

"Our team is ready together with officers from the Palembang City Government to supervise food and drug products circulating in the market to ensure they are safe from harmful substances," said Zulkifli.
