MANADO - A joint team of police, TNI, Basarnas, and volunteers evacuated residents trapped in floods in Singkil District, Manado City, North Sulawesi.

Head of Public Relations of the North Sulawesi Regional Police, Grand Commissioner Pol Jules Abraham Abast said heavy rains hit Manado City and its surroundings on Thursday afternoon, causing a number of areas to experience flooding, including the Ternate Tanjung Village and Karame Village, Singkil District.

North Sulawesi Police personnel, especially from Ditsamapta, Manado Police, and Singkil Police, led by Police Chief, 2nd Insp.  Ch. Pardede immediately came down to help deal with the flood.

"Police personnel collaborated with TNI personnel, Basarnas and volunteers immediately went down to evacuate residents trapped in the flood in their homes. Residents were transported by rubber boats to safer locations," he said in Manado, Thursday, March 3.

He said the evacuation went smoothly, there were no casualties, fortunately, the rain had started to subside making it easier for officers to evacuate.

He also reminded all residents to be careful regarding the extreme weather that might still occur.

"Residents who live on the outskirts of watersheds (DAS) and locations prone to landslides to stay alert, if necessary, for now, look for a safe location first," he said.
