Bobby Nasution's Order To Fix Drainage In The Medan Merdeka Square Area

MEDAN - The mayor of Medan, North Sumatra, Bobby Nasution asked the relevant OPD to fix the drainage in the Merdeka Square area due to high waterlogging when heavy rains fell.

"To determine what was the triggering factor, I directly inspected the drainage around Medan City Hall Street on Tuesday (1/3) night," explained Bobby Nasution in Medan, quoted by Antara, Thursday, March 3.

The Medan City Government also checked the drainage conditions in the area using a flashlight in hand, and opened the control tub accompanied by the Head of the Medan City Public Works (PU) Department, Typhoon OP Ginting.

Bobby Nasution found several points of problematic drainage channels that caused the Merdeka Square area to be flooded, so he ordered the Public Works Agency to build new drainage.

"The construction of this new channel is urgently needed so that the water discharge in the Merdeka Square area will no longer be accommodated there," said Bobby Nasution.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Medan Public Works Agency, Topan OP Ginting, admitted that he was dismantling the drainage of City Hall Road starting from the Aston Hotel in the Merdeka Square area to the 365-meter Deli Tobacco Road intersection.

"Currently we are also repairing the City Hall intersection to the 646-meter Putri Hijau intersection. This drainage improvement will affect the results of road repairs," he said.

Perhaps, he said, there were drainage gaps due to leaks or shifts, so that the soil beneath was eroded by water causing the soil to sink or plummet.

"This drainage must be improved so that the asphalt of City Hall Road which is the main road is not flooded and bumpy again," said Topan.
