Mayor Eri Cahyadi: The Figure Of Puan Maharani Is Attached To Surabaya

SURABAYA - Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi said that the figure of DPR Speaker Puan Maharani is closely related to the City of Surabaya because apart from being the grandson of the first Indonesian President Soekarno, he also participated in the dynamics of Megawati's struggle in the New Order era.

"Today we are grateful that Bung Karno's grandson, namely Ms. Puan Maharani, visited Surabaya. She is very attached to Surabaya," he said while accompanying Puan Maharani to visit Tempe Village in Surabaya.

According to Eri Cahyadi, the figure of Puan Maharani is very close to Surabaya. Puan's grandfather, Bung Karno, was born in Surabaya on June 6, 1901, at dawn. Also in Surabaya, Bung Karno spent his youth studying at the place of a famous Islamic figure, Haji Oemar Said Tjokroaminoto, in the Peneleh area.

In Surabaya, he continued, in the dynamics of his youth, Bung Karno studied at HOS Tjokroaminoto. From there the forerunner of Bung Karno's nationalist thought was formed. This means that in Surabaya, Bung Karno began to imagine about Greater Indonesia.

Eri Cahyadi added, apart from the Bung Karno factor, Puan's closeness to Surabaya was also formed because of Puan's presence in the dynamics of Megawati Soekarnoputri's struggle in the New Order era.

In 1993, the PDI Extraordinary Congress (KLB) took place in Sukolilo, Surabaya. This was an open resistance to the New Order government, in which Megawati was de facto elected as General Chair of the PDI but was not wanted by the government.

"At that time Ms. Puan was also present in Sukolilo. Ms. Puan yesterday told me that she was there to accompany Mrs. Megawati's struggle in realizing a democratic life in Indonesia. I have also seen Mbak Puan's photo when she was present in Sukolilo in 1993. very strong," said Eri Cahyadi.

Mayor Eri Cahyadi himself seemed intensely accompanying Puan. He picked up Puan at Juanda Airport, Tuesday, March 1, then accompanied her during the gathering to a number of elderly kiai at PWNU East Java, then met with PDI-P cadres in Surabaya. Eri was also seen when Puan attended the East Java PDIP consolidation.

On Wednesday, March 2, Eri Cahyadi accompanied Puan through the Addrejo Market to check the prices of basic commodities and absorb the aspirations of the traders. Eri Cahyadi was also present when the grandson of the RI proclaimer came down to the tempe village in the Sukomanunggal area.

"Alhamdulillah, we thank Ms. Puan Maharani for visiting Surabaya, meeting the people of Surabaya, in markets and villages. God willing, this brings good news to Surabaya," said Eri Cahyadi.
