JAKARTA - The Civil Society Coalition to Guard the 2024 Election has urged three political parties in the Jokowi government coalition to withdraw the statement regarding the proposed postponement of the 2024 election. This is because it can damage democracy and teach bad political education.

"We urge PKB, PAN, and Golkar as well as other political parties that agree to postpone the 2024 General Election immediately withdraw their statements. Because it will disrupt the democratic and legal order and provide poor political education for the people," reads the demands in a written statement from the coalition guarding the 2024 election, Wednesday. , March 2.

Second, the civil society coalition to oversee the 2024 general election encourages all political parties to remain consistent in carrying out the constitutional mandate. Namely, elections are held every five years in a fair manner.

Third, urging all political parties to be consistent with KPU Decree Number 21 of 2022 which has been ratified together with Commission II of the DPR, the government, and election organizers. It is known, the determination of the election will fall on February 14, 2024.

"Fourth, reminding other political parties to stick to the election law and not to follow the steps of PKB, Golkar, and PAN to postpone the 2024 election," he wrote.

Fifth, invite all levels of society to reject the discourse on the issue of delaying the 2024 Election because it can injure the people's right to elect their leaders every 5 years.

"Sixth, asking President Joko Widodo to firmly reject the discourse of postponing the election and the consequent election schedule that has been determined by the KPU based on consultation with the Government and the DPR," the coalition's final demands read.

In the statement, the coalition also stated that postponing the 2024 general election would threaten Indonesia's democratic process and potentially lead to authoritarian leadership.

In addition, the proposal actually violated the mandate of the Indonesian Reformation and sparked public anger.

"This fundamentally shows the failure of political parties to live up to the most important value that should be upheld, namely fairness in the electoral process," he said.
