SAMARINDA - The Mayor of Samarinda, East Kalimantan, Andi Harun confirmed that schools in the area with five percent positive confirmed cases of COVID-19 will be closed for five days.

"During those five days, students identified as COVID-19 were dismissed and their schools were cleaned, including spraying disinfectants and then re-examining their educators," said Andi in Samarinda, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, February 22.

He said these steps were taken so that when schools re-opened after five days of being closed, all school residents were confirmed to be in good health and ready to resume learning at school.

To note, the Samarinda City Government (Pemkot) followed the 2022 Ministerial Decree 4 which requires schools to continue to carry out face-to-face learning (PTM) for PPKM Level 3.

Meanwhile, schools with positive confirmed cases of COVID-19 above five percent will be closed for 14 days or two weeks with the same process.

"The COVID-19 task force in each sub-district/kelurahan must follow the development of these students," he explained.

Andi Harun added, if a school is affected, the Samarinda City Health Office will immediately carry out tracing.

"This includes tracing the family in question. That's what we have done and tracing is facilitated by the government," he stressed.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Samarinda City Education Office, Asli Nuryadin, added that PTM in Samarinda is 100 percent, but with a limited system.

"This means that all schools in Samarinda do PTM but the duration of learning and capacity is limited, only two hours and 50 percent of the room capacity," he explained.
