KAHMI Condemns The Beating Of The General Chair Of KNPI

JAKARTA - The Presidium of the National Assembly (MN) of the Alumni Corps of the Islamic Student Association (KAHMI) Viva Yoga Mauladi condemned the beating of the DPP Chairperson of the Indonesian Youth National Committee (KNPI) Haris Pertama, in the Cikini area, Central Jakarta.

"All forms of violence, including thuggery, cannot be justified because Indonesia is a state of law," said Viva Yoga in a written statement in Jakarta, Tuesday, February 21.

He emphasized that KAHMI encouraged the police to thoroughly investigate the case so that similar cases would not be repeated in the future.

"The police must immediately find the perpetrators and take firm action. These beatings cannot be tolerated and are not suitable in a democratic country," said Viva Yoga.

Haris Pertama, who is also the Chairman of the Youth and Sports Division of the National Assembly (MN) KAHMI, was ganged up in the parking lot of the Garuda restaurant, Cikini, at around 14.10 western Indonesia time.

Arriving at the location and getting out of the car, Haris was immediately hit by some unknown people. He was allegedly being followed from home.

Haris was beaten by the perpetrators using stones and other blunt objects. Moments later, some of the perpetrators fled on motorbikes.

Meanwhile, Haris reported to the Menteng Police to make a report as well as a post-mortem. However, suspected of being slow in handling the officers, Haris then rushed to the IGD RSCM Kencana for medical treatment. Haris' temple and head were torn and had to be stitched up and treated by a specialist.

Haris is a reporter for the case of hate speech containing ethnicity, religion, race, intergroup (SARA) carried out by Ferdinand Hutahaen at the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police.

Ferdinand has also been named a suspect and will undergo his first trial at the Central Jakarta District Court on Tuesday, February 15. Haris was asked by the Central Jakarta District Attorney to be present as a witness at Ferdinand's second trial at the Central Jakarta District Court, Tuesday, February 22.
