NTB Police Take Over Rape Case Of Disabled Woman In Sumbawa

MATARAM - The West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Regional Police took over the handling of a case of alleged forced rape or rape of a woman with a disability that caused her to become pregnant and give birth to a boy.

"So we are withdrawing this case to the regional police, not in the sense that we do not involve regional investigators. Rather, we remain an 'umbrella' in the sprin-gas (assignment order) with the timsus (special team) that I sent down," said the Director of General Crime Investigation ( Dirreskrimum) NTB Polda Kombes Hari Brata quoted by Antara in a written statement, Saturday, February 19.

He also assured that the monitoring of the Timsus under the Division of Youth, Children and Women (Renakta) of the NTB Regional Police would make the handling of this case faster and more precise.

"This case has also caught the attention of the NTB Police Chief, because this is the third case involving a victim with a disability, the last one in Bima and Mataram," he said.

Thus, Hari emphasized that his party would take this case seriously. Even on Thursday, February 17, this case was carried out and increased to the investigation stage.

"So at the police station, this case is still under investigation, the handling there is not optimal and there is little doubt in making clear the allegations of the case," he said.

With the promotion of this case to the investigation stage, Hari confirmed that his party would immediately reveal the role of the suspect. This was also confirmed by the plan to test the victim's child's DNA with the alleged perpetrator with the initials HN.

"Next week we will conduct a DNA test through the puslabfor (forensic laboratory center) in Jakarta. We believe that this will become strong evidence in revealing the suspect's role," said Hari.

In this case, the victim, who is in her 30s, gave birth to a son in November 2021. Despite her limitations, the victim's confession became the basis for a police investigation.

From the report, it was revealed that the suspect had carried out a lecherous act against the victim with death threats.
