Higher Remuneration Compared To Other ASNs, KPK: Tax Officers Are Expected To Be Professional

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has asked the employees of the Directorate General of Taxes at the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu), especially those who handle tax management directly, to be professional in carrying out their duties. Moreover, the remuneration they receive is higher than the state civil apparatus (ASN) in other ministries or agencies.

"We know that the remuneration of tax employees is by far the highest compared to other ASN," said KPK Deputy Chair Alexander Marwata as quoted from the Indonesian KPK YouTube, Friday, February 18.

With this condition, Alexander assessed that the government actually puts hope on the employees of the Directorate General of Taxes to carry out their duties honestly. Mainly in the process of calculating taxes that must be paid by taxpayers.

Moreover, currently taxes are the largest source of state revenue, or around 78 percent. Thus, the tax officers carry out their duties professionally.

"The government hopes that tax officials in calculating taxes are also professional, correct, and reject all forms of negotiation or reject all forms of tax collection intervention," he said.

"So what, taxes as the largest source of state revenue, which is around 78 percent, are actually enjoyed by the state after ten years of not being achieved and last year's tax revenue being achieved according to the target," added Alexander.

Apart from tax officers, the tax consultants also expressed the same expectation. Alexander asked anyone who works in this field to be honest when helping the taxpayers.

He reminded tax consultants to follow the applicable rules and not to bribe officers arbitrarily.

"We hope that the tax consultants do their job properly, follow the rules," said Alexander.

"If they do not match or reject the findings of the tax examiner, do not agree with the tax assessment letter, please file an objection. Please comply with the applicable laws and regulations," he concluded.
