Accumulation Of COVID-19 In Palembang, As Of Last Wednesday Recorded 1,901 Cases

PALEMBANG - The Palembang City Health Office's COVID-19 Task Force stated that the number of active COVID-19 cases in the capital city of South Sumatra Province experienced a significant increase from 901 people, up to 1,901 as of Wednesday, February 9.

Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force of the Palembang City Health Service, Yudhi Setiawan, said that this number was the result of the accumulation of positive COVID-19 cases from January 2022 plus cases during the last two days in Palembang.

The highest COVID-19 cases were recorded last Tuesday as many as 295 people, then last Wednesday there were 217 positive cases. Of the number of active cases, there were six people undergoing treatment at the hospital, 963 symptomatic cases and 140 asymptomatic cases undergoing isolation treatment either independently or in health facilities.

Then, there were nine active cases that recovered, bringing the total to 1,109 cases.

"Those who are asymptomatic and have mild symptoms must self-isolate, only those with severe symptoms are being treated intensively at the hospital," he said in Palembang, Antara, Thursday, February 10.

According to him, the number of COVID-19 cases was compiled from the results of the antigen swab test and PCR tests from the laboratory for people who want to move or who need treatment at the hospital.

Including, people who had close contact were also tracked and confirmed as many as 150 people.

"They generally have mild to moderate symptoms, and are isolated," he said.

The Task Force appealed to the public not to worry about carrying out antigen swab tests or PCR tests available at health facilities.

"Because through this examination, the spread of COVID-19 can be detected early and those who are confirmed can be immediately treated medically," said Yudhi Setiawan.

Meanwhile, Head of the Quality Committee of the Central General Hospital (RSUP) Mohammad Hoesin Palembang, Fraulin Plasmey, said that his party is currently taking mass swab tests for as many as 3,000 of their health workers.

The swab test will be taken for the next 15 days with a total of 200 people per day as an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 so that it does not spread further.

Moreover, he said, currently the number of COVID-19 patients being treated was starting to increase with the occupancy of beds being 48 percent of the number provided and several health workers at the hospital also being confirmed as positive for COVID-19.

"Don't panic and stay disciplined with health protocols such as wearing masks according to standards and reducing mobility and avoiding crowds," said Fraulin Plasmey.
