Defendant Of Murder Of MUI Chair In Labura, North Sumatra Sentenced To Life In Prison

MEDAN - The panel of judges at the Rantauprapat District Court, North Sumatra, sentenced the defendant to the murder of the chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) North Labuhanbatu Regency (Labura), Aminurasyid Aruan.

In the trial chaired by Judge Welly Irdianto, the defendant Supriyanto alias Anto Dogol alias Anto Kolot was declared legally and convincingly proven to have killed the victim's life by planning as stated in the first indictment, article 340 of the Criminal Code.

"Sentencing the defendant to life imprisonment," said Judge Welly, Wednesday, February 9.

This decision is the same as the demands made by the Public Prosecutor (JPU) Andri Rico Manurung. After hearing the verdict of the panel of judges, the defendant and his legal advisor expressed their thoughts.

The panel gave the defendant 1 week to accept or appeal the decision.

It is known that the sadistic murder of the Chair of the Labura MUI was carried out by the defendant on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, on Jalan Umum Lingkungan VI Panjangpanjang II, Guntingsaga Village, Kualuh Selatan District.

The murder started when the defendant and his friend, Solihin alias Iin, stole palm oil belonging to the victim and were caught by the victim, Monday, July 26 2021, at around 09.00 WIB. The victim reprimanded and advised the defendant not to steal again.

However, the next day at around 16.00 WIB, the defendant, who did not accept the victim's warning and advice, came to the corner of the main road of the neighborhood VI Panjang Field II, Guntingsaga Village, brought a long machete and monitored the victim's arrival. The defendant hid behind a coconut tree while sharpening his machete with a stone.

At around 16.55 WIB, the defendant saw the victim coming riding a black Honda Astrea Legenda motorcycle BK 4846 JA, and getting ready to go to the victim.

When the victim was near, the defendant who was on the side of the road immediately jumped and swung his machete at the back of the victim's head. The victim deflected it with his left hand, so that it hit the palm of his hand to the left back and the victim fell from his motorcycle.

The defendant then swung his machete at the face of the victim who had fallen on his back, so that it hit the nose to the temple and left eyeball.

At that time, the victim tried to escape, but when he was face down, the defendant swung his machete at the back of his neck. The defendant also swung his machete at the back of the head and the top of the head.

The local people who saw the tragic incident screamed hysterically so that the defendant fled. Police personnel from the Kualuh Hulu Sector Police together with the community evacuated the victim to the hospital, but it was declared the victim had died.

The victim suffered multiple stab wounds and severed his palms. The police together with the community then searched for the perpetrator and was caught from hiding that night.

At the previous trial, the defendant admitted all his actions. He did this heinous act because he was afraid of being killed by the victim, because when he and his friend were caught stealing palm oil from the victim, the victim reprimanded and threatened to kill the defendant if he stole again.
