Java-Bali PPKM, DPR Members Ask Violators To Be Strictly Strict

JAKARTA - Member of Commission IX of the DPR, Nurhadi, invites the public to comply with the rules for implementing restrictions on community activities (PPKM) and asks that violators be punished.

Nurhadi explained that the Government has decided to increase the level of application of restrictions on community activities (PPKM) in Greater Jakarta, DIY, Bali and Greater Bandung to level 3, until February 14, 2022.

The decision was taken during a surge in COVID-19 cases that occurred since early February 2022. The Indonesian House of Representatives also appealed to the public to comply, sanctions or punishments needed to be given to violators.

"PPKM level 3 has become a government policy and a decision that must be implemented, so if anyone violates it, they must be given sanctions or penalties," he said in Jakarta, Wednesday, February 9.

He explained that PPKM is one of the government's efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

"Yes, we always hope that every policy will have a good impact on the community, especially in terms of the health and safety of the human soul," he said.

Furthermore, he said the main key to the success of handling COVID-19 apart from the discipline of health protocols was the implementation of vaccinations. He mentioned that the WHO recently predicted that the COVID-19 pandemic could end in 2022 as long as global vaccination coverage reaches 70 percent.

"WFH (work from home) and PPKM are government discretionary variables in terminating the transmission of COVID-19," he said.

Meanwhile, according to Member of Commission IX of the DPR RI, Elva Hartati, the implementation of PPKM and previous social restrictions has been quite good, including law enforcement for those who violate it.

"There is already a government policy that refers to the Outbreak Law and the Disaster Management Law regarding sanctions for those who violate it, including providing guidance, written warnings and withdrawal of business licenses," said Elva Hartati.

He assessed that discipline, participation of all parties, and law enforcement were the keys to the success of PPKM as a brake in pandemic control policies.

"With our shared awareness that the implementation of PPKM can have a positive impact, it should move us together to be more disciplined in implementing health protocols and supporting the implementation of PPKM," he said.

He believes that the current pandemic condition, where 233,062 active cases, is an alarm for all that we must be more serious in controlling the pandemic. Elva assessed that the government's decision to implement PPKM level 3 in Jabodetabek and several other areas was the right step.

"The only thing I need to underline is how the implementation of PPKM can be even more effective. Discipline is the key word and community participation to continue implementing health protocols must continue to be a priority," he said.
