MAKASSAR - The South Sulawesi Health Service sent 107 probable variants of Omicron to Jakarta's Litbangkes to confirm the variant.

The Head of the South Sulawesi Health Office, Dr. Arman Bausat, said the 107 probable omicrons were obtained from testing with the S-gene Target Failure (SGTF) method in Makassar.

"From the results of the examination through the SGTF detector, which is suspected of being Omicron, then we will send it to Jakarta. We are still waiting for the results together", he said, quoted by Antara on Wednesday, February 9.

He said that the probable omicron sample had been sent, but the results had not yet come out.

This is because the examination at Litbangkes Jakarta takes a long time because of the large number of samples from various regions in the country.

"As for the results that just came out, there are six that have been confirmed positive for Omicron. We are still waiting for hundreds of other samples", he explained.

The South Sulawesi Provincial Government is currently reinforcing the tracing of close contacts of residents who have been confirmed by Omicron.

Given, this Omicron variant spreads faster. Therefore, the South Sulawesi Health Office invites the community to work together to participate in vaccinating.

The government together with the TNI (Indonesian Army)-Police and the Forkopimda (Regional Leadership Coordination Forum) are trying to prevent and suppress the spread of COVID-19.
