DKI Provincial Government Submits Draft Perda On Disabilities To DKI DPRD

DKI Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria submits a Draft Regional Regulation (Raperda) on the Implementation of Respect, Protection and Fulfillment of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities/DOK DKI Provincial Government

JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria submitted a Draft Regional Regulation (Raperda) on the Implementation of Respect, Protection and Fulfillment of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities as well as submitting the Raperda to the leadership of the DKI Jakarta DPRD.

In reading the speech on the handover of the regional regulation, Riza said that the regional regulation on disability which is a revision of the Regional Regulation Number 10 of 2011 concerning the Protection of Persons with Disabilities really needs to be changed.

"Philosophically, it has not fully used the social model approach in its regulation, which focuses on a multi-sectoral perspective on respecting, protecting, and fulfilling the rights of persons with disabilities," said Riza at the DKI DPRD building, Monday, February 7.

In addition, sociologically, Regional Regulation Number 10 of 2011 concerning the Protection of Persons with Disabilities is no longer relevant.

According to him, many practices of respecting, protecting, and fulfilling the rights of persons with disabilities are based on the initiatives of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in responding to the immediate needs of persons with disabilities and the number of people with disabilities in Jakarta has been increasing.

In addition, there needs to be further regulation by taking into account the provisions contained in Law Number 8 of 2016 concerning Persons with Disabilities, especially those related to government affairs carried out by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.

"It needs to be done by mainstreaming disability in various sectors by referring to the provisions in Law Number 8 of 2016 concerning Persons with Disabilities and the division of government affairs in this Raperda which regulates several important material substances of Law Number 23 of 2014 concerning Regional Government," explained Riza.
