Waiting For PPKM In Jakarta Amid The Trend Of Case Increase

JAKARTA - The fate of the continuation of the Implementation of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) in Jakarta will be decided today by the central government during the announcement of the Java-Bali PPKM.

Yesterday, DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan had held a coordination meeting with the provincial government.

"This afternoon there was a Java-Bali coordination meeting chaired by the Coordinating Minister and it is currently under discussion. Later, when it is final, it will be reported," said Anies when met in Central Jakarta, Sunday, February 6 evening.

It is known that the DKI Provincial Government has proposed to Luhut to consider increasing the PPKM level in Jakarta from Level 2 to Level 3. This was conveyed by the Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, Ahmad Riza Patria, some time ago.

Consideration of this level increase is due to the condition of COVID-19 cases which continues to increase. As of February 6, there were 15,825 new cases added.

Currently, there are 67,219 active cases in Jakarta, of which 52,594 people are self-isolating at Wisma Atlet and at home, and 14,625 people are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The percentage of positive cases from the number of specimens examined or the DKI Jakarta positivity rate in the last one week was 22 percent.

Anies also admitted that the increase in COVID-19 cases in the capital city had increased quite significantly. Although the severity of symptoms in general is not high, but still have to be careful.

"So even though in general the symptoms are mild, many are even asymptomatic, but don't take it lightly. If in our family there is a senior family member and has comorbidities, then he is at risk," said Anies.

Returning to the fate of PPKM in Jakarta, Anies admitted that he could not announce it. Considering that the decision on the PPKM assessment level in each region is in the hands of the central government.

"I am not in a position to announce because PPKM is different from PSBB. In the past, the governor announced PPKM, if PPKM was through the Ministry of Home Affairs," he added.
