JAKARTA - Floods occurred in a number of areas in Jakarta, Wednesday morning after heavy rains flushed the capital city in early 2020. Rain has hit the capital city and its surroundings since Tuesday, December 31 afternoon.

TMC Polda Metro Jaya through its Twitter account in Jakarta, Wednesday January 1, said that flooding occurred in several areas in Jakarta, including the Housing Secretariat of Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta. The flood is said to have occurred around 05.00 WIB with a water level of about 30 to 50 cm.

In addition, floods have also occurred in several areas in the capital, including the Borobudur Campus on Jalan Kalimalang, East Jakarta, where the water level is estimated to be up to 40 cm.

Floods also occurred in residents' housing in Gedong Village in Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta, with an estimated water level of 30-70 cm. Floods also hit residents in Kelapa Molek, Kelapa Gading Timur, North Jakarta.

The area of Jalan Bambu Kuning, Cengkareng Barat Urban Village, West Jakarta was also reported to have flooded with water levels reaching 50-60 cm. Until now, there have been no reports of casualties from this natural event.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) had previously predicted rain throughout Jakarta on New Year's Eve.

BMKG estimates that Central Jakarta and West Jakarta will receive moderate rain, East and South Jakarta will experience rain with lightning, and light rain in North Jakarta and the Thousand Islands area.

Meanwhile, the water level of the Ciliwung River at Manggarai Water Gate, South Jakarta, Wednesday morning reached 860 cm or was alerted to two floods due to rain that had occurred since midnight.

This information was shared by the DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency Data and Information Center (Pusdatin BPBD) through its Twitter account and BMKG's WhatsApp group message chain.

The Jakarta BPBD Pusdatin has informed that the increase in the water level of the Ciliwung River at the Manggarai Water Gate will occur starting at 02.00 WIB at the 700 cm level or standby at four. The rain that had continued to flush Jakarta since Tuesday night until early Wednesday caused the water level to continue to rise.

On Wednesday December 1, at 03.00 WIB, the water level of the Manggarai Sluice Gate reached a level of 815 cm with a status of increasing to three alerts Until 04.00 WIB, the water level increased again to the level of 860 cm with a second alert status.

The weather condition is also reported to be still raining, so it is estimated that there will be an increase in the water level at the Manggarai floodgate. Pusdatin BPBD DKI Jakarta urges people affected by the rising water level of the Ciliwung River to be vigilant.

Areas affected include Gondangdia, Grogol, Jati Pulo, Kalianyar, Karet Tengsin, Kota Bambu Selatan, Kota Bambu Utara, Menteng, Petamburan and Tomang.

Pusdatin BPBD DKI Jakarta has also made anticipatory efforts by disseminating information to village heads and residents living on the riverbanks about the increase in water level at Manggarai Water Gate through social media such as Twitter, Facebook, Whatsapp and the website. Notification to the camat & lurah is delivered through the whatsapp group Disaster Pusdatin BPBD DKI Jakarta.

Meanwhile, based on the Twitter monitoring of the DKI Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Service, the water level at the Manggarai Water Gate at 04.30 WIB had reached 895 cm with a two-flood alert status, and the weather was still raining.
