Head of Operations for the East Jakarta Fire and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Sub-dept., Gatot Sulaeman, said that the body stuck in the water gate belonging to the PDAM was found at 00.15 WIB.

"The age of the victim is estimated to be 50 years. His identity is not yet known because no identity was found on the victim," Gatot told reporters, Wednesday, February 2.

A light rescue unit accompanied by four personnel from the East Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-dept. was deployed to evacuate the bodies from the floodgates.

When they arrived at the location at 00.19 WIB, personnel from the East Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-dept. went down to the Kalimalang stream and evacuated the body.

"There were no obstacles for the evacuation process. We finished the evacuation at 00.35 WIB. After the bodies were evacuated, we handed them over to members of the Duren Sawit Police who handled the investigation," he said.

Later, the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Duren Sawit Police will conduct an investigation regarding the cause of the bloody death as a result of the examination by a team of forensic doctors and identification of the victim.

According to Gatot, the process of evacuating bodies in cases like this is not the first time that his party has done it, in the case of finding bodies in rivers and evacuating drowning victims.

"Throughout 2021, we will carry out 47 water rescues. Members in charge of evacuating have been trained and supported by the evacuation equipment we have," he said.
