South Sumatra OKU BPBD Evacuates 4 Vehicles That Almost Sinked Due To Floods

SUMSEL - The team from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, South Sumatra, evacuated four four-wheeled vehicles that almost drowned due to the flood disaster that occurred in Baturaja City since Tuesday, February 1 night.

"As of this morning, four four-wheeled vehicles, each dump truck and three minibuses, were evacuated because they almost drowned," said the Manager of the BPBD Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Pusdalops, Gunalfi, in Baturaja, Antara, Wednesday, February 2.

Floods that occurred due to high rainfall intensity from yesterday afternoon until evening caused a number of areas in Baturaja City to be flooded with water levels reaching 1.5-2 meters.

The flood-affected areas include Baturaja Permai Housing, Sriwijaya Hospital Housing, Jalan Wahab Sarobu towards SMA N 4 Baturaja and Jalan Ahmad Yani.

Although there were no casualties, as a result of the natural disaster, it was recorded that 110 houses in the area were flooded with water levels reaching 1.5-2 meters and dozens of two- and four-wheeled vehicles had to be evacuated because they almost drowned.

"The location that was severely affected by the flood occurred on Jalan Ahmad Yani Baturaja, exactly in front of Citimall (Cimall) Baturaja with water levels reaching 2 meters," he said.

"Last night, three units were evacuated. This morning another unit was added and almost drowned, but our officers in the field, assisted by residents, rescued the vehicle," he said.

Currently, his party is making efforts to drain the water using a suction machine so that the flooding will recede immediately so that the traffic flow on the road can return to normal.

"We have installed signs prohibiting crossing on roads affected by flooding for vehicles until the process of draining using a vacuum machine has been completed by officers in the field," he said.
