JAKARTA - A three-story shop house (ruko) located on Jalan Jati Raya, RT 05/03, Jati Kelurahan, Pulogadung District, caught fire on Monday, January 31.

Head of East Jakarta Sub-dept. of Fire and Rescue (Sudin Gulkarmat), Gatot Sulaeman, said that his party received a report of a fire at the location at 16.35 WIB.

"Earlier, there was a report that there was a fire at the location of a shophouse on Jalan Jati Raya RT 05/03, Pulogadung, the point where Jami Al-Wasthiyah Mosque is known," said Gatot to reporters, Monday, January 31.

The fire that burned the three-story building is thought to have originated from an electrical short circuit. Meanwhile, the shop owner panicked and couldn't do anything but save himself.

"The shop owner was sleeping on the 3rd floor, suddenly there was a fire from the 1st floor of the shop." said Gatot.

The shop's occupants came out after it was discovered that the fire had engulfed the shop-house building. The first floor of the shophouse which became a grocery store was devoured by the red rooster.

Gulkarmat officers who previously received reports from residents, came to the scene by deploying 14 fire engines accompanied by 70 personnel.

"We will extinguish the fire starting at 16.46 WIB and finish at 17.30 WIB. Thank God there were no casualties, 25 people were saved," he said.

Meanwhile, the material losses caused by the fire amounted to approximately Rp. 300 million.

"The area burned is 96 square meters, three floors, yes, for material losses it is estimated at Rp300 million," he said.
