Regarding Allegations Of Teacher Violence Against Students, Reni Astuti Appreciates Surabaya Education Office's Quick Steps

JAKARTA – The violence of teachers against sis has caused deep public concern. Reni Astuti, Deputy Chairperson of the Surabaya City DPRD, appreciated the quick response of the Head of the Surabaya Education Office who immediately moved to a public junior high school in Surabaya.

This step was taken, related to the circulation of a three-second video via WhatsApp in which a teacher acts violently on students in front of the class.

"The point is that the video was spread and reached me. Then I checked the truth with the Education Office (Surabaya Disdik). The Education Office also found out about it from me and immediately checked. It turns out that it was true that it happened in Surabaya," said Deputy Chair of the Surabaya DPRD Reni Astuti in Surabaya, as quoted by Antara. Sunday, January 30th.

Not only hitting, in the video the teacher is also heard saying inappropriate words before finally hitting him.

Once again, Reni Astuti appreciated the quick response of the Head of the Surabaya Education Office, who on Saturday, January 29th immediately went to the school.

"Whatever the reason. It is clear that the act of violence is gravely wrong and must be severely punished. Hitting it is a fatal mistake and must be given heavy sanctions," he said.

He explained that violence against children in schools has been regulated in Article 54 of Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning Amendments to Law Number 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection (UU 35/2014).

The law, he said, states that:

(1) Children within and within the educational unit are obligated to obtain protection from acts of physical, psychological, sexual violence, and other crimes committed by educators, education staff, fellow students, and/or other parties.

(2) The protection as referred to in paragraph (1) is carried out by educators, education staff, government officials, and/or the public.

Furthermore, in carrying out professional duties, he said, teachers are obliged to uphold the laws and regulations, laws and teacher code of ethics as well as religious and ethical values.

Then, in Article 2 paragraphs (4) and (5) of the Indonesian Teacher Code of Ethics which states that respecting the dignity and rights and treating students fairly and objectively.

"The fifth paragraph states: Protecting students from all actions that can interfere with the development, learning process, health, and safety for students," he said.

For this reason, he asked the Surabaya Education Office and related schools to immediately go to the parents and apologize publicly.

"This child must be protected so that there is no trauma and psychic. Must be accompanied. Other students in the class must also receive assistance so as not to cause trauma," he said.

In addition, this female legislator from the PKS faction also asked the relevant agencies to check the background of the teacher who hit the student's head.

"If there is a problem at home or something like that, we have to find out so that it can be used as evaluation and guidance material for the Dispendik as a whole for all educators in Surabaya. Whatever the reason, it is clearly wrong. The law also prohibits it. Then the child has the right to be protected, let alone physically , verbal alone is not allowed," he said.

The incident of teacher violence at one of the Surabaya Junior High Schools against his students became a hard slap to the world of education in the "City of Heroes". "I was shocked when I saw the video. I didn't expect something like this to happen here," said Reni Astuti.
