BPBD Handles River Flow Diversion In Inland West Aceh

JAKARTA - Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) officers handle river erosion in the Krueng Meureubo watershed (DAS), in the Alue Keumang Village area, Pante Ceureumen District, West Aceh Regency.

"Our handling is in the form of diverting river flows, so that river flows no longer erode community land," said West Aceh BPBD Chief Executive DR Mukhtaruddin, quoting Antara, Saturday, January 29.

He explained that the diversion of the river flow was carried out for 300 meters with the hope that the river flow in the area would no longer hit community settlements or agricultural land owned by farmers.

The transfer of the Krueng Meureubo watershed in the Alue Keumang Village area, Pante Ceureumen District, West Aceh Regency, he said, was carried out for 300 meters so that the brunt of the river current would no longer hit community settlements.

The handling, he said, was carried out on the orders of the Regent of Aceh Barat H Ramli MS who ordered BPBD to immediately divert the flow of the river, so that when it was hit by heavy rains the river water would no longer inundate community settlements.

Mukhtaruddin explained that the dredging of the river to divert the current was carried out for 15 days from January 14, 2022, and was completed on January 29, 2022.

"This current diversion is an effort by the West Aceh Regency Government to overcome river erosion in residential areas," he added.

He also explained that the handling was carried out on an emergency basis, with the hope that natural disasters would no longer occur in the area, he said.
