JAKARTA - The government asked residents to reduce mobility to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission after the national number of SARS-CoV-2 infection cases continued to soar.

"This recommendation is made as an effort to break the chain of the spread of COVID-19," said Jodi Mahardi, Spokesperson for the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan as Deputy Chair of COVID-19 Handling and National Economic Recovery, quoted by Antara, Friday, January 28.

"Local transmission dominates the occurrence of cases today. This is most likely due to the high mobility in the community and people's neglect of health protocols so that the spread, transmission, is so fast," said Jodi.

The government also recommends that residents who have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and can receive booster vaccinations immediately visit the vaccination service facilities provided by the government to undergo booster vaccinations to avoid transmission of COVID-19 and the severity of the disease.

Jodi said the government conducts an assessment every week to determine the level of implementation of restrictions on community activities and other policies aimed at preventing a spike in COVID-19 transmission.

"What the government does, of course, must be done in a precise and measurable manner," he said.

"The government will continue to use this tool as a control," he said.
