SABANG - The District Attorney (Kejari) of Sabang, Aceh, has named two suspects for alleged corruption in the Aneuk Laot Tourism and Education Park development project with a total budget of IDR 385.8 million from village funds.

Sabang Chief Prosecutor Choirun Parapat said his party had examined 28 witnesses and an expert and had confiscated a number of documents related to the alleged corruption.

"From the examination of a number of witnesses, experts, and documents, the investigating prosecutor's team has held an internal meeting which I directly chaired and finally concluded that at least two pieces of evidence had been obtained and determined two people who should be responsible as suspects," said Choirun Parapat as quoted by Antara, Thursday, January 27th.

The two suspects, namely the initials FA who served as Chair of the Activity Implementation Team (TPK) and IS listed as members of the TPK.

He mentioned that the budget for the development of the Aneuk Laot Village Tourism and Education Park, Sukakarya District, Sabang City was sourced from the 2020 Village Fund.

According to him, the construction process for the tourist and educational park should be completed in December 2020.

"However, until now the work for Gampong Aneuk Laot has not been completed, it has even been abandoned. Meanwhile 100 percent of the budget has been disbursed," he said. For the time being, he continued, the investigating prosecutor team was waiting for the results of the calculation of state financial losses from the Sabang City Inspectorate auditor.

The suspects will be subject to Article 2 or Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001, in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the 1st Criminal Code, with threats imprisonment for a maximum of 20 years with a fine of IDR 1 billion.

Kajari advised the investigating prosecutor's team to always be professional in resolving the criminal case until the court's decision.

"Hopefully this case will serve as a lesson for gampong organizers in Sabang City to be careful and professional in managing village budgets," he said.
