AMBON - The Commander of Military Command (Pangdam) XVI/Pattimura Maj. Gen. Richard Tampubolon asked the police to act quickly to arrest and process the law for the perpetrators involved in the conflict between Ori - Kariuw residents, Haruku Island, Central Maluku Regency.
"Anyone involved must be dealt with firmly and processed according to the applicable legal provisions, so as to provide a deterrent effect to others," said Pangdam Richard, in Ambon quoted by Antara, Thursday, January 27.
The former commander of the TNI's Special Operations Command (Dankoopssus) admitted that he had discussed the steps for handling and resolving the Ori-Kariuw conflict comprehensively with the Maluku Police Chief Inspector General Lotharia Latif.
"There are already handling steps that will be carried out together, as well as being used as a priority scale based on the development of the situation and conditions on the ground," he said.
According to him, indiscriminate law enforcement to the perpetrators and the elements who contribute to clouding the atmosphere and creating a disharmony situation in the community so that conflicts occur, must be carried out immediately in order to provide a deterrent effect.
Pangdam Pattimura stated that the clashes that resulted in the death of three residents and the burning of dozens of houses, needed to be an evaluation material for all parties, especially the persuasive approach in solving various problems that occurred in the community.
Pangdam Pattimura also asked the public to be able to restrain themselves, not be emotional and not be provoked by various incitements and information whose truth or source is not known.
"Let's hold ourselves back. Follow the advice of the government as well as religious leaders and community leaders, so that a harmonious and family-friendly atmosphere can be re-created," said Richard.
The Pangdam also met with religious leaders in Maluku on Wednesday, January 26 to ask for input regarding possible conflict resolution efforts, including asking for an active role from religious leaders to help mediate settlements between residents of the two neighboring regions.
